PMMA Fiber Harnesses

We offer a range of PMMA fiber harness options in both end-emitting and side-glow varieties.

End emitting PMMA fiber comes in two configurations - single unsheathed or sheathed strands of 0.75mm (0.03"), 1mm (0.04"), 1.5mm (0.06") or 2mm (0.08") diameter or as multiple strands of 0.75mm (0.03") fiber in a low smoke sheathing.

The single strands of fiber give 'starry' points of light and do not usually require termination, while the multi-stranded fiber is normally terminated in the same manner as end emitting glass. Multi-stranded PMMA end emitting fiber is usually specified where very long tail lengths of above 10m (32.8') are required as there is less color shift when compared with glass over long distances. As PMMA fiber is made up of much thicker fibers it is less flexible than glass and cannot be randomized to the same extent.

Our end lit PMMA fiber can be used in temperatures between -55°C and +70°C or 60°C in highly humid locations.

Sideglow fiber can normally be used between 0°C and +70°C.

All PMMA fibers degrade with age, though the speed of degradation will depend on many environmental considerations, so there is no sure fire way to predict the useful working life of these fibers. In favourable conditions PMMA fiber has been found to last more than 10 years, though this cannot be guaranteed.
