Light Wands

Light Wands are a smaller version of the Light Tubes. Available in standard 0.8in (20mm) diameter and mini 0.55 (14mm) diameter, they come as standard with black or silver anodised finish but can also be painted to a custom color.

The Light Wands use PMMA fiber at close spacings to give a very even wash of light, ideally suited to use in small display cases, or to light pictures or information boards.

Information

Light Wands use 0.75mm or 1.00mm unsheathed PMMA fiber. This will be determined by the throw of light needed and how close to the Light Wand the scallops of light are required to merge into an even wash.

Consider the following when specifying Light Wands: the dimensions of the area to be lit; the space required to feed through the diameter of the wand at its widest point (usually the end cap); how the tails can run back to the light source; the intensity of the light required.

Normal spacings for the fiber are between 1.2in (30mm) and 4in (100mm). Below are some examples of maximum lengths of 0.8in (20mm) light tube fed with tails of 0.75mm and 1mm fiber from one end.

Fiber SizeMax. no of PointsMax. Length of Wand
0.75mm 178 points 105in (2670mm)
1.00mm 100 points 59in (1500mm)

The measurements below are for 0.8in (20mm) diameter light wands using a mini common end connector (requires 1.2in/30mm adaptor). One or two light wands can be used per light source with a suitable adaptor.

Fiber DiameterCentersMax. Length per Wand
0.75mm 0.6in (15mm) 140in (3560mm)
0.75mm 0.8in (20mm) 105in (2670mm)
1.00mm 0.6in (15mm) 59in (1500mm)
1.00mm 0.8in (20mm) 78.7in (2000mm)
1.50mm 0.6in (15mm) 24.2in (615mm)
1.50mm 0.8in (20mm) 32.2in (820mm)

Accessory Brackets

Two types of accessory brackets are available for light wands.

A plug for the wand bottom and bracket for the top hold the light wand vertically. The bracket diameters are 0.55in (14mm) ID = 1.1in (28mm) and 0.8in (20mm) ID = 1.3in (33mm).

The clear plastic C-clips are used to hold the light wands on their axis.
